Reviews, News & Updates
Hey! Check me out! THE MILL made it to Fangoria Magazine. It's actually Kelly Ray pictured in the article.
Here's something fun I found the other day. I'm on the tv.com website for having worked on 'Magical Do, Re, Mi with 4 Kids'. It's no big deal, but I think it's great. (Ah....it's the little things that get you through.) Enjoy!
- Owen Keehan Interview - "Acting seems to be not only in Kelly Ray's blood... but in her larynx as well. But better than all this ---this enthusiastic actress is FUN and FUNNY as I found out in our interview. See for yourself."
- Kristy Langford Interview - I was MORE than excited when Kristy Langford, from Gates of Gore, asked me to do an interview with her. Check it out!
Alien Nine
"Kelly Ray has the difficult job of making the perpetually scared and crying Yuri accessible and sympathetic. She pulls this off with amazing skill and grace. She's pushed beyond what she's emotionally capable of dealing with, and her constant crying is her only escape. Kelly doesn't simply cry for all four episodes, though. Her friendship with the more mature Kumi goes through many changes, and Kelly handles the emotional changes well. One significant, though effective change from the original script happens in the final credits. We see a tragic scene play out as the ending song plays. In the original Japanese, we see Kumi begin to cry one more time, but we don't hear it. Director Tom Wayland uses the fact that there is a lull in the music at that point to let Kelly Ray let loose with one last, heart-rending wail that will send shivers down your back."
"The cast itself is made up of a few of the best in the business, but none of them even touch the top role in this series: the voice of Yuri Otani. A rookie to the voice acting scene, Kelly Ray put out an excellent performance in her portrayal of Yuri."
"Yuri's dream sequences are very cool, visually and dramatically, and there's a lot of good voice work. You may get sick of Yuri's hysterics, but Kelly Ray voices them well in her first animation job." -The Detroit News "Kelly Ray's take on Yuri has a fittingly fragile tone, and if she’s annoying, it’s only because of the character."
Munto
"I thought that the three girls, Yumemi, Suzume and Ichiko, were interesting and somewhat realistic characters. We view a monologue while Yumemi runs to Munto in the closing scenes of how Yumemi tried to convince herself that the islands were nothing but dreams, and that if she forgot about them that they would go away and she would be normal. Suzume is believable as an almost stupidly innocent thirteen year old, and Ichiko plays the standard best friend who will cover for you, even against your parents. Their dialogue among each other was quite refreshing. I found the English dub track to be better than the original Japanese."
Naru Taru
"The two main characters of the series are Shiina and Akira. For both, we see into their pasts and understand why they act the way we do, and thus, there was character development . . . . . In general, the characters are chilling and disarming, and very well done in my opinion."
Shadow Hearts: 3
"While the cast of characters are interesting enough, they all come off as very stereotypical or clichéd. Johnny acts has a horrible main character, with the female lead and fusionist Shania saving the game from having a lost cast of characters."
Blood Relic
"I really liked the cast, I'm not sure why, they were an attractive bunch but at the same time they seemed like real people. I'm not sure what the difference was, but there was one. Also there was more effort put into several of the characters than we often see in a slasher flick, it made the whole thing more effective although not so much that you don't enjoy the slaughter." "During the commentary, Ingvordsen says that the two most important things to any indie movie is a good script and a good cast. Both are here, and he proves his point. Aside from award winning Scream Queen Debbie Rochon and the ever-creepy Billy Drago, most of the cast are relative unknowns. Many are inexperienced, but very competent, actors Ingvordsen has used in the past. Like most slashers, it is an ensemble cast and there are a lot of group scenes. The chemistry is there with the actors, and they work together in a very believable manner."
"As a writer and director, I have had the pleasure to work with Kelly Ray on stage, in a recording booth, and on camera. Kelly is a consummate professional with real presence. She throws herself entirely into her craft and always brings smart, creative, interesting, and sometimes unexpected elements to whatever character she's playing. In the sometimes frantic creative environment of a production she can be a rallying leader to the actors around her. Unafraid to try just about anything, she is a funny, playful, sexy, dramatic and courageous actress that is always interesting to watch. I sincerely look forward to the next opportunity I have to work with her." - Tim Werenko, Director, The Boob Movie / Casting Director, Central Park Media
"Kelly is amazing to watch. We shot her first scene for (A Spider Beside Her) outside of a small roadside bar and the scene called for her to walk out with another character. As she walked inside, she cracked a joke and was being herself. But when I called "action" and she walked back out the door, she was 100% in character. The transformation gave me goosebumps, it was so incredible. She handled every scene like a real pro and all I could think of was how lucky I was to have her in this before she's discovered by someone in Hollywood and starts making millions. She's really that good!" "On the projects I've worked with her on, she always presents creative ideas on everything from pre-production right on through to it's promotion. Most actors would come in, do the work and move on, but not Kelly - she stays involved to the very end. On this level, you're going to find very few actors as talented and as dedicated as she is!" - Shawn Hunt, Artistic Director, Funhouse Picture
"Kelly Ray is incredibly professional, and incredibly talented. Knowing her is like being wrapped in saranwrap, swallowed by a monkey and then smuggled across the mexican border....in other words, it's quite an experience." - Nathan Faudree, actor/writer/sfx artist
"Kelly is awesome. I can say, with no doubts, that she is one of the absolute best actresses working in independent horror." - Tony Urban, Artistic Director, Crazy Ralph Films
"Kelly Ray knows ALL ABOUT helping out her friends. She's very "old school" in the sense that her work, and her pursuit of work, does not come from a desire to be competetive. On top of that, Kelly is constantly recommending her fellow actors for roles. She is the most unselfish actor that I know. - Cracka, actor/photographer/writer
"Kelly Ray is a treat to work with. I recommend a daily dose." Kip Kaplan, ADR Director & Audio-Post Supervisor, Audioworks |
